Basics of Game Development
Non-Degree / Dates: 31 July - 4 August 2023
The objective of the course is to provide knowledge and introduce practical skills in order to develop digital games. Participants learn to use one game development environment (e.g. Unity).
Upon completing the course the student:
– can develop simple digital games;
– knows the basic functionalities of one game development environment (e.g. Unity).

- game development process
- overview of game development tools
- introduction to selected environment (e.g. unity)
- general layout of the working area and tools
- recommended workflow
- creating game objects
- creating gameplay
- 2D game creation

Mohammed Mahmood Ibrahim Ockba is a computer science educator and a certified computing professional ITCP/IP3P with over 10 years of experience in the field of education and information technology. Throughout his career he has taught a variety of technical courses covering a wide spectrum of programming languages and tools. He has an MSc in Computer Science from University of Sharjah and a BSc in Computer Engineering from the American University of Sharjah. He is currently doing his 2nd Masters degree in Digital Learning Games focusing on game based learning, game development and design of serious games. His latest research focuses on the gamification of digital speech therapy.
Course sessions take place for a week, from Monday to Friday, 10:00-16:00.
Previous game design experience is useful but not mandatory.
Upon full participation and completion of course work students will be awarded 2 ECTS points and a certificate of completion.
Accommodation and meals are not included in the price.
