The course is dedicated to introducing Estonian culture. It gives an overview about the most important phenomena and processes of Estonian culture both in historical and contemporary perspective. The topics that are discussed during the course include Estonian traditional culture and different aspects of Estonian contemporary culture (literature, art). The course consists of lectures, seminars, independent work and excursions to Estonian Open Air Museum and art museum KUMU. At the end of the course the students have acquired the basic overview about Estonian culture, its developments and the current situation.
Why this course?

– After finishing this course you will understand what is “Estonianness”.
– You will be able to cope with Estonian cultural enviroment and have the basic “survival kit” for acting in Estonian society.
The assessment of the course is an essay that can be submitted via e-mail. Students who take part in lectures, seminars and study trips, present an individual or group work and submit the final essay, will be granted 1 ECTS.
Every day from 3pm to 5pm.
15 July Lecture. Introduction to Estonian Culture. Introduction of the tasks of the individual or group works.
16 July Lecture. Estonian traditional culture
17 July Study trip to Estonian Open Air Museum
18 July Study trip to art museum KUMU
19 July Seminar and final discussion. Presentation of individual or group works (the tasks of the individual or group works are based on lectures and study trips).
The fee for the course is 150 EUR (including the museum tickets).
